Uncharted 2 Multiplayer: We don't do patches
Category: Specific Game -
Post Date: Jul 10, 2009
You all must have noticed that almost every other game has a few post-release patches. It's expected, now, not to get a game that works or is balanced on release date.Uncharted 2 developers Naughty Dog are claiming that they do not need to use patches for the multiplayer aspect of the game.
They're fairly tight lipped at this stage, but it's said that they don't even need players to download patches, and that they can even make changes to the levels. The multiplayer design lead has said, though, that they will patch the game if it was absolutely required.

Not to start a PS3 v 360 debate here, but this is kind of like what Bungie did with Halo 3 map/game variants and their playlist system. No need to patch the game if the designers want to move a weapon from one side of the map to the other, or change the amount of killed needed to win a match. Its a very efficient system and more games need to go this route.

Agreed.

I must say, I didn't notice that, because I don't play Halo 3 that often, but hey.
If they're doing it well too, go Bungie

Nothing's broken, it's just functioning differently.

The only patches they've had to release have fixed a few exploits, changed the way melee kills work and added a new playlist ranking system.

I much prefer update systems that don't have you forever downloading patches. At least, on consoles, it's not so irritating on PC, but hey.
