CoD:MW2 - Stiffing the UK
Category: Specific Game -
Post Date: Jul 17, 2009
It looks like us UK gamers are going to have to prepare for the latest round of stiffing.Activision announced that CoD:MW2 is going to cost £55 due to the weak pound - which means we'll be forking over around $90 for the standard edition of CoD:MW2.
Activision also claim that the record development costs are another factor in the price hike - But they fail to explain why this doesn't affect the US price, which is (At the moment) holding around $60 for the standard edition.
It is slightly confusing as to where they're coming from, as £1 is still translating to, roughly, $1.60.
It's possible that this is going to set the precident for UK games pricing according to critics. Let's hope not.

MW & COD5's price fixing didn't influence other companies to follow suit. So I hope this will be equally isolated. Problem is, I actually see people buying it up regardless.
Activision have always been twats, and despite my strong dislike of EA, Activision are fast becoming the worst publisher there is.

Yeah, it hasn't influenced them yet. I'm worried that they'll keep doing it, specifically in the UK (Since it's easier to blame a weaker pound, despite it still being stronger than the dollar).
EA are, it seems, trying to do something about their negative image, which is making me dislike them less (Still think most of the games they put out are utter toss, though). I think Activision have got into the same mindset EA were/are in - We can do no wrong.
They'll get a wakeup kick soon enough.

Well, EA are apparently making C&C 4 PC only and DRM free. C&C might not be my favourite RTS franchise, but it's definitely a good sign all the same.

They're learning, slowly.
I'll be picking up C&C4 regardless of DRM, I've got far too much love for C&C >.>

Yeah, it's shaping up very well. I've been with the series since Tiberium Dawn, back when people were comparing that to the 'high res' Warcraft 2.
But I wasn't so keen on C&C 3 and certainly didn't like the look of RA3. But this one seems to be putting the series back on track, even if it is for one last time.

Yeah, you can tell there were EAisms all over those games, but frankly, so long as I get to keep playing in the RA/Tiberium universes I'm willing to overlook the flaws.

Damn, that's expensive.
Looks like I will be waiting for the price to drop before I buy that.

Such a beautiful lie.

Enjoy your wait. COD4 started out at £30 and it's still at £30. Even when similarly high scoring games drop to about half their starting retail price inside 6 months. The price fixing on COD is nothing if not absolute.

It is just a bit OTT, huh.
