Category: Specific Game -
Post Date: Jul 30, 2009
Well, CCP have released what can only be described as an advert - And it's good.It can be found:

There.
It's a strangely appealing advert, if only slightly implausible.

Pretty cool indeed!
They do have one selling point thogh: the one universe vs WoW's Realm architecture.

I do prefer it to the whole.. Many characters on many realms system.

Most people end up having a problem with EVE because they never leave the safety net of Empire space to take part in the player driven aspect of the world. They think they are limited by their skills, they think being a new player makes them always the underdog. I guess too many people have become accustomed to the EQ and WoW MMO's and don't value the role of the small guy in the party anymore.
I'm glad CCP is making videos like this one, to show people that no matter what they do they affect the game even in the slightest of ways. It's just crappy that there are still always 50 posts in major sites from people who "played for x amount of time" and tell others that it's nothing but a grindfest because they never took the initiative to play with other people in an MMO.

I can see their point, to be quite honest.
I've been playing for a while now, but I'm still finding it hard to find something to keep me playing on a regular basis.
My experience is almost the exact opposite of thee video - I either never find anything worth the effort, or get my ass handed to me (Which is admittedly more my fault than the games). So even though I've been training skills so I can fit my ship how I want to, I don't want to take it out of the dock because either nothing will happen or I'll end up with a pile of wreckage and an insurance claim that doesn't cover the weaponry etc.
I've not yet given up, though!

The best thing you can do is join a corporation and fly with others. Solo PVP is one of the harder things to do in the game, hell now there's even factional warfare that players can join and find fleets all day long.

I always managed to get bored when trying to find a decent, stable corp.
They either seemed to be massive and elitist about who they let in to do what, or small and hardly ever on to the stage where it was pointless.

Implausible?
I thought it was so simplistic that it could apply to any MMO, not just EVE. How is that remotely implausible?

Of all the EVE I've floated through, it's either never happened, or I've seen it happening with people flying bigger ships than mine.

Cause you never played enough, and never actually got into the game fully into a corp, etc. You are not an authority on the subject, and therefore not qualified to pass judgement on whether what is portrayed in that trailer is plausible or not!

So THERE!

The player in the character is never specified as being in a corp, merely a pilot who happens upon some people socking it to a miner!

The video then implies that he somehow gets invited into the corp based on the standing up for the other player.
So, technically, I'm in a better place to talk than someone in a corp!

So you have ran across someone in need and helped them? Because I have, several times. And one time, their friend's didn't 'show up' but they happened to be in a corp, and invited me to apply, which I did, and even tho I have not played EVE for two years I still talk to these people. In fact the guy that I helped is a good friend of mine and invited me to his wedding.

Oh and at the time, I was not in a corp.

I've run across someone in need, but I was flying a POS - I'd have been less use than a chocolate fire guard.
It's not as true now, though, as I'm flying something considerably better, and when I get the skill training done, considerably more dangerous. It's certainly not something, the advert that is, that applies to the newbies.

Ok, not applying to newbs I can agree with. However that is not what you said up front.

True enough - But the advert still doesn't advertise the months of work you'd have to do to get to a stage where you're capable of doing it
